The Staff
Aviv Weiss Kaplan is currently serving as the editor and chief of the Bein L’ Bein publication. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana and moved to New York City at the age of three. While in New York City, Aviv attended a nursery school in the Marble Hill area before beginning to attend Kinneret Day School at the age of five. Aviv considers Kinneret to be one of the most important locations in his life as Kinneret is the school where he has been able to study both the general and Hebrew curricula from fantastic teachers. Outside of school, Aviv loves listening to orchestral music, talking to his pet turtle, Bartok, and reading. His favorite literary genres are: realistic fiction, historical fiction, and mysteries. Some of his interests include: classical music theory, English lexicography, and orthopedic surgery — as Aviv has experienced a few knee operations over the past few years. Aviv can sometimes appear as shy or serious, but once you get to know Aviv, you will be struck by his warm, confident, and kind manner.
Omer Dayan is the artistic director of Bein L’ Bein. Omer is a transfer student from Israel. She joined the KDS family when she was in 4th grade and is currently in 8th grade. She is looking forward to guiding the artistic vision of Bein L’ Bein and nurturing the other artists in KDS’s middle school. Omer lives in the Bronx with her parents and two brothers and enjoys drawing and sketching.
Tessa Smyth is the eighth grade editor, whose pronouns are they/them. They are new to Kinneret, but are already comfortable with their surroundings. They live on Independence Ave, across the street from the school that they used to attend. They make the 25 minute trek to Kinneret and back everyday. Tes loves to read, and draw. They are also extremely interested in marine biology, especially jellyfish, as seen in their recent science fair project. You’ll find them a little quiet at first, since they have social anxiety, but will soon find that they can be very energetic and creative.
Violet Hoffnung is Bein L’ Bein’s seventh grade editor, and she is very excited to be working on this project. She joined KDS for Nursery in 2012, and has been attending Kinneret ever since. Some of Violet’s interests include: math, baking, piano, and tennis. Some of her reading interests include: realistic fiction, graphic novels, and biographies. Violet may appear as shy or quiet, but once you get to know her, you see that she can be enthusiastic and amiable. Violet is looking forward to editing her fellow students' work in seventh grade and further improving her writing skills.
Jordan Walmsley has been attending KDS for seven years. Throughout the school years, they have grown to like writing, art, music, and Greek mythology. They are also excited to learn new things and meet new people. Since Pre-K, they have made new friends and have gotten to know many of our incredible teachers. Everyone is also friendly, keeps warm smiles, and is very welcoming. They are so glad to be in this school and be a part of the school community. They are also happy to be a part of the Bein L’ Bein editorial team. It means so much to them that they get that kind of experience. They are being inspired by the fellow members of the team to continue to stay positive on their work. The stay so far has been great and they can’t wait for upcoming events!
Camilla Lieberman Wisse is currently the 6th grade editor for Bein L’ Bein. Prior to attending Kinneret, Camilla attended Carmel Academy in Greenwich until fifth grade, when Covid hit. She enjoys many of her classes in school, which range from Judaic studies to Math. She is also part of the student council as one of the sixth grade representatives. When she’s not at school she enjoys horseback riding and hanging out with friends. She is an eager learner, and loves to be a part of any school related event that she possibly can. Whether the school event/group be a literary magazine like Bein L’ Bein, or a sports club, she loves to participate in anything in which she can participate. Camilla is happy to be part of the warm, Bein L’ Bein community.
